KOH PHI PHI
Two islands are really worth a
stop: the larger, Phi Phi Don, has lots of restaurants, provisioning
and a lively main street; the smaller island, Phi Phi Lee, has a great
anchorage in Maya Bay, a sandy lagoon surrounded by limestone cliffs.
Nearby is Viking Cave, an important nesting place for the sea swallows, whose
nests are gathered for the famous birds nest soup dish.
KRABI and
KOH DAM ISLAND
Krabi has some truly spectacular
scenery with its high limestone outcroppings. There are many bays to
anchor overnight and you will find restaurants in Krabi Town and Ao Nang. PHANG NGA
BAY
Visit the James Bond island of
Koh Phing Kan, and enjoy the stunning outcrops of limestone jutting straight up
from the sea. These emerald waters afford sheltered cruising waters with
the opportunity to take an excursion in one of the "longtail" boats
(named for their form of outboard engine). There is also a Gypsy village
at Pan Yi that is built on stilts over the water.
