Choosing the right charter option is important.
You will be going on holiday with your friends and family and the right choice
will impact your enjoyment. If your chartering experience is, for example in the
BVI, and you now want to visit e.g. Italy, perhaps a skipper would enhance your
trip.
BAREBOAT CHARTER - a yacht without crew where YOU do the sailing. You
decide on the route, you sail the boat, and you do your own cooking aboard.
Provisioning can be done for you, or you may decide to purchase your own
provisions when you arrive.
SKIPPERED BAREBOAT CHARTER - if you are new to sailing and do not meet
the charter company's skippering requirements, or if you do not wish the full
responsibility of being the skipper, i.e. you really need a carefree holiday, or
your choice of charter destination will be in a location where local customs,
navigational aids etc. are unfamiliar, you may elect to hire a skipper. You can
do as much of the sailing as you like without the responsibility of skippering.
You are responsible for the skippers provisions.
FLOTILLA SAIL - a group of bareboat yachts with a lead boat. This is an
ideal option if you've dreamed of sailing in far-away places. There is a lead
boat with a skipper and hostess (and sometimes an engineer) to help you with
navigation, anchoring directions, and lots of local knowledge to steer you to
the best sights and restaurants. Many of the participants on flotillas make
on-going friendships that lead to future charters together, both on flotillas
and sailing independently. King Yacht Charters even organizes a flotilla in
Africa on what we call "Sailing with the Elephants".
A Cruising World magazine "Adventure Charter" can
give you the opportunity of sailing in the place dreams are made of, even though
it is often VERY difficult to persuade your friends to join you for a bareboat
charter in, say, Tahiti. Most participants who come on these trips are couples,
but singles are also welcome.
CREWED CHARTER - a yacht with a captain and cook. Of course, this is a
luxurious way to sail. You can decide on your itinerary and do as much sailing
as you wish, or you can just enjoy the sun and a good book. A professional crew
looks after you royally, manages the yacht, prepares meals AND cleans up.
CABIN ON A FULLY CREWED YACHT - If you cannot get enough friends or
family together to fill a yacht, this is a convenient option available in the
Caribbean, Tahiti. Call KYC for details.
BAREBOAT A POWER YACHT - Looking for a power or motor yacht? We can book
you a power yacht in the BVI or in the Abacos. We also have access to power
yachts in New Zealand and Australia. Call KYC for details.
QUESTIONS YOU MAY HAVE -
AM I QUALIFIED TO CHARTER A YACHT?
IF I CANNOT FILL A BAREBOAT AND WANT TO JOIN A CRUISING WORLD ADVENTURE
FLOTILLA, HOW DO YOU MAKE UP THE BOAT? HOW DO YOU PUT PEOPLE TOGETHER?
AND YOU MAY HAVE OTHER QUESTIONS
These are valid questions which can best be fully answered in a phone
conversation. Please give us a call at 800 521 7552, or 860 536 9217
Meanwhile, we'd like to quote from a charterer in Minnesota from a
flotilla:
"We really enjoyed everyone that we cruised with. We would sail with any
one of them again….There is not one detail that we would change if we could do
the whole trip over again."
