Cruising World
Adventure Charters – The Perfect Way to Sail Around the World
"Sail a Cat" The BVI's and Anegada with Cruising World magazine
December 5 to
December 13, 2008
Announcing!
Circumnavigator and
best-selling author TANIA AEBI
to be 2008 guest host of Cruising
World’s
most popular annual charter
In
May 1985, Tania Aebi, then only 18, cast off from Manhattan and sailed 27,000
miles around the world alone on her
26-foot sloop Varuna, becoming
the
youngest woman to circumnavigate solo. Her inspirational book,
Maiden Voyage, became an
award-winning bestseller, and Tania went on to become a sought-after and
entertaining motivational speaker, and author.
These days, two decades after the voyage that made her famous,
she’s mother to two teenagers, and one of
CW’s most popular contributors, having just skippered her 36-foot cruising
boat -- with her sons as crew! -- around the Caribbean, through the Panama
Canal, across the Pacific, and through the paradisiacal islands of the Pacific.
In Tahiti she hands the helm and boys over to her ex-husband to sail to New
Zealand.
Join Tania in the BVI this winter, along with longtime
CW charter leaders Carol and Peter
King. Hear her extraordinary tales while sailing with her aboard catamarans
through the fabled islands and turquoise waters of the British Virgins -- Jost
Van Dyke; Cooper and Norman Islands; the other-worldly Baths at Virgin Gorda;
and the remote and spectacular Anegada, normally off limits to charterers. It’s
no-worries sailing; getting from one island to another involves easy eyeball
navigation.
We
hope you will join us for our
SEVENTH fun-filled bareboat catamaran charter sailing in the
beautiful British Virgin Islands. Many of you have expressed a keen interest in
trying out a large catamaran. Here’s your chance not only to sail aboard some
of the splendid catamaran fleet we have assembled, but also to receive sailing
pointers about sailing a cat.
There are many good
reasons for the rising popularity of catamarans – speed, stability, and
roominess. There is no doubt that space on a catamaran is a big plus with
generous berths that don’t pinch your toes, ample storage for your gear, a
saloon area that may be as large as your own family room (ok, so maybe that’s an
exaggeration), and enough galley space to please the cook. When you need to
find your own bit of privacy, the trampoline is a perfect place to “hide out.”
And there’s enough room in the cockpit to accommodate a crowd for “sundowners.”
Perhaps you have sailing companions who need a bit more stability than a
monohull. Catamarans fill the bill here, too.
This “Adventure Charter”
offers visits to the Baths, Cane Garden Bay, Norman Island and Anegada,
out-of-bounds for most charterers. We think that Anegada is a charmingly simple
island, which adds a new perspective to this splendid sailing area.
Since boats will be filled
on a first come, first served basis, we urge you to sign up early especially if
you have a particular boat preference. As always, both couples and singles are
welcome. If you are unable to fill a boat yourself, we will do our best to
find additional crew. In this case, we would ask you for some brief
comments about yourself and your sailing background. Naturally, we will
endeavor to make the best possible match.
